Community Services
The Koomarri Community and Residential Services run a number of programs which support people with disabilities to participate in the community either through recreational or social activities and the provision of community housing. These services are funded by the ACT Department of Disability, Housing and Community Services and the ACT Department of Health and Community Services.
- The Koomarri Community Access Program assists older people with a disability plan for and work towards their retirement.
- The Koomarri Community Links Program provides opportunities for people with disabilities who may have complex needs to take part in community life. This funding enables staff to build relationships with each individual and their family to identify needs and implement plans for the future.
- The Koomarri Pathways Service delivers respite and helps develop life skills with greater interdependence for people with disabilities. Services are offered in the family home, through a drop in centre, and by helping to develop natural supports within the person's community.
- The Macquarie Houses provides personal care and community access in two small group residential settings to people who may otherwise inappropriately be living in a nursing home.
- Brokerage Agencies in the ACT purchase service for their clients through Koomarri. These clients are usually those considered by other agencies as difficult to serve. Koomarri has developed an effective service with a strong reputation for supporting these people to engage in meaningful activities in the community.
- Individual Support Packages are individual funding arrangements which are auspiced and coordinated by Koomarri. Koomarri has been working with two individuals and their families, who have their own funding, to develop alternative living arrangements using our Family Directed approach. These individuals are now successfully living in their own home, each having their own day to day program and support base. Within the next 12 months, Koomarri will be extending their support to include another two individuals and their families.
- Respite Services provide individuals with time away from home which provides support to both the individuals and importantly, their families. These services are responsive to the needs of the individuals and can be either a planned service or utilised when the need arises. The services that are provided offer a positive experience for all involved.
