How We Can Support You To Find and Keep a Job

Koomarri enables people with disability to access employment opportunities in supported and open settings.  We can provide you with job skills (read more about this here) or support to find and keep a job as follows:

Supported employment in Koomarri business enterprises

Koomarri’s business enterprises are commercial operations that provide supported employment for people with disability.  The income derived from these businesses goes back into supporting the expansion of job opportunities for people with disability.  Our enterprises include:

    Garden Maintenance

We have several teams that undertake general grounds maintenance such as tree and shrub planting, mowing, whipper snipping, edging, hedging, mulching, chemical and physical weed control and removal.

    The Cut Cloth Shop

This enterprise manages the cloth received from Koomarri’s charity bins. Tasks include collection, sorting and collating, measuring, cutting, weighing and bagging.

    Cleaning

Cleaning includes commercial cleaning activities and rubbish removals across a range of sites.

    Office administration

Employees can work individually or as part of a group in the community, government or private sector, undertaking a range of office administrative tasks such as mail outs, sorting, shredding, compiling, scanning and filing.

Please note we currently have no vacancies in our business enterprises, however we encourage you to complete an Online Referral if you would like more information about future vacancies as they arise.

    Work trials

All new supported employees undertake a work trial to provide the employee with an understanding of their job responsibilities and opportunity to see if it is the right fit for both employer and employee. The hours and days of a work trial are flexible, however they are generally undertaken for up to 12 hours per week over an eight week period.  Throughout this time, participants are paid under the Supported Employment Services Award 2010, and pending a successful trial, an ongoing position may be offered.

    Support in open employment

Koomarri can provide you with support to find and keep a job on the open labour market that is tailored to your aspirations and strengths. This is a new, emerging area of service for Koomarri.  Please complete a Registration of Interest if you are interested in this type of support.

    Work experience and volunteering

Work experience and volunteering can be of great benefit to your career development.  Work experience gives you the opportunity to explore different jobs, learn about the world of work, and get a real sense of the industry you want to work in. It shows employers you are motivated, gives you a good understanding of your strengths and the skills you need to develop further.  It is a great opportunity to build up your contacts and networks.

Work experience placements are short term and typically involve work shadowing (observing how others do a job) and/or work sampling (undertaking tasks).

We can organise work experience placements with employers and in Koomarri business enterprises.  The type and duration of work experience placements are tailored to the preferences of the individual and capacity of the employer.

    How to access this support

We can offer structured work experience placements for ACT/NSW residents with NDIS funding who are participants in the 2017 Certificate I in Work Skills for Life and Certificate 2 in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways.  We are exploring how we can expand our delivery of work experience supports in other ways.  Please complete the Online Referral form if you would like information about future opportunities as they arise.

    Employment related assessments and counselling
