Vale Margaret Spalding

Vale Margaret Spalding

Margaret Spalding was CEO of Koomarri from December 1997. Margaret died suddenly on 23 March 2009.

Margaret lead the development of Koomarri over its most significant period of growth. The organisation now serves over 400 clients and their families, has established a greater level of service provision and has gained widespread public support.

Through her tireless, determined and caring efforts, Margaret greatly improved the lives of people with a disability in the ACT and region.

Over her 30-year career in the sector, Margaret earned a reputation as a leader in the field of disability services not just in the ACT, but also on a national level.

As well as her role as CEO of Koomarri, Margaret served on many community and professional committees and boards including the ACT Community Inclusion Board, the ACT Leadership and Development Group and National Disability Services ACT.

In a fitting tribute to her leadership, Margaret was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the disability services sector in the ACT in the 2009 Australia Day Honours List.

Margaret will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and especially by her Koomarri colleagues and clients.

Margaret’s vision and passion will live on and the family she created - the Koomarri family - will continue to ensure its clients remain safe, active and continue to lead fulfilling lives.
